Create a customer
Name and email are required. Store your own id in external_id so later calls can use it instead of TolaPay's.

Subscribe them to a plan
Plans are set up once in the dashboard or the API. A subscription links a customer to a plan; collection_method decides how renewals are paid.

Record usage or open a checkout
Send one event per billable action, with a transaction_id that makes retries safe. Events accept your external_id as the customer. Or create a hosted checkout and redirect the customer to its url.

Receive a verified webhook
TolaPay signs every delivery. Verify Tola-Signature against the raw body, reject stale timestamps, then act on the event idempotently.

Track payment status
Invoices and payments are queryable at any time. The dashboard's API log shows every request with its response.

The basics

What is TolaPay?

TolaPay is a billing and payment platform for software businesses in Nepal. It handles subscriptions, usage-based billing, prepaid wallets, NPR invoices with 13% VAT, a hosted checkout with Khalti, eSewa, cards and bank transfer, a customer portal and billing emails, through one dashboard and one REST API. Your business stays the seller and uses its own payment provider accounts.

Who is TolaPay for?

Software businesses that sell to customers in Nepal: SaaS companies, subscription and membership products, AI and API products that charge by usage, and people selling digital products such as templates, courses or software licenses. Developers integrate through the API; non-technical sellers can use payment links and the storefront without code.

How much does TolaPay cost?

TolaPay is free during its public beta, with every feature and no limits on customers, plans or usage events. You pay only the standard fees your payment providers charge under your own merchant accounts. Paid plans arrive after the beta, and workspaces created during the beta keep a discount.

Payments

What payment methods does TolaPay support?

Khalti (wallet, e-banking and mobile banking for every bank Khalti routes to, connectIPS and SCT), eSewa, Visa and Mastercard through Stripe, and bank transfer. Customers pay in Nepali rupees and choose their method on the checkout page.

Can I accept eSewa and Khalti through one integration?

Yes. You connect your Khalti and eSewa merchant accounts to TolaPay once, and your app integrates only with TolaPay's API or hosted checkout. TolaPay verifies each payment with the provider and sends you one signed invoice.paid webhook, whichever rail was used.

Can I create payment links without coding?

Yes. Create a checkout link for a plan, product or wallet top-up in the dashboard, then share the URL in a chat or email or print its QR code. Each visitor gets their own checkout with every rail you've connected.

Billing and VAT

Can TolaPay handle 13% VAT in Nepal?

Yes. Prices can be VAT-exclusive (13% added on top) or VAT-inclusive (13% carved out) per plan or product. Every invoice shows the VAT split with your legal name, PAN or VAT number and bank details, and customers registered for VAT receive a Tax Invoice.

Does TolaPay support recurring billing?

Yes. Plans can bill monthly, yearly or on a custom interval, per seat, with free trials, upgrades, downgrades and proration. Renewals collect by automatic card charge, an emailed invoice link payable with Khalti or eSewa, or the customer's prepaid wallet.

What is usage-based billing?

Usage-based billing charges for what a customer consumes, such as minutes, tokens or API requests, rather than only a flat fee. Your product sends usage events to TolaPay, which counts each one once, applies your per-unit, graduated, volume or package pricing and free allowance, and adds the total to the next invoice.

Can I integrate TolaPay into my SaaS application?

Yes. TolaPay has a REST API under /api/v1, documented in OpenAPI 3.1, covering customers, plans, subscriptions, usage events, wallets, invoices, checkout, benefits and analytics. Most integrations start with three calls: create a customer, record usage or open a checkout, and handle the invoice.paid webhook.

Does TolaPay provide a sandbox?

Yes. Every workspace has a test mode with separate tola_test_ API keys and sandbox Khalti, eSewa and Stripe, so you can run the full flow, from checkout to webhook, before switching to tola_live_ keys.

How are webhooks verified?

Each webhook carries a Tola-Signature header with a timestamp and an HMAC-SHA256 of the timestamp and raw body, computed with your endpoint secret. Compare it in constant time and reject anything older than five minutes. Failed deliveries are retried after 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 hours and 12 hours.
