Why every Tola Pay checkout shows a QR code
Nepal pays by phone. A QR that opens the checkout on a handset — where Khalti, eSewa and banking apps live — removes the biggest friction in a desktop purchase.

Fonepay's network crossed a million merchant QR payments in a single day in March 2025, and NRB counts tens of millions of QR transactions a month. Nepalis have learned to pay by pointing a phone at a square. Your checkout should meet that habit.
The desktop problem
A buyer on a laptop reaches your checkout, picks Khalti — and the approval has to happen in an app on their phone. Switching devices mid-purchase is where carts die.
What the QR on a Tola Pay checkout does
Every hosted checkout and payment link renders a QR. Scanning it opens the same checkout session on the phone, where wallet and banking apps are a tap away; the desktop page updates when the invoice is paid. It is not a Fonepay merchant QR — it is a bridge to the device where payment actually happens.
Print it
Because links are reusable, the QR works on a poster, a receipt or a slide at a demo day. A workshop can sell seats from a sheet of paper.
